Tulsa is the second largest city in the whole state of Oklahoma and it was at one time called the Oil Capital of the World due to being located on top of the largest oil reservoir in the world. Though it did not hold that title for very long, all of the money that came to the area as a result of the oil industry made it the perfect place to start building places that tourists could not stay away from. Tulsa is a great place to learn about jazz

If you go to the Union Station you will walk in and see the Jazz Hall of Fame. This city is well known for being home to some of the best jazz musicians in the country and you can see all of their lives and musical works well documented in the Hall of Fame. If you go on the weekends, you can even see live jazz performances at the Grand Concourse and experience free jazz sessions every Tuesday.


Take a moment to be educated about the 1921 race riots

In 1921, there was an incident between a white woman and black man that no one actually understood nor was it ever determined as to what actually happened on the elevator. However, as a result of how the incident was handled, the city was immersed into very violent riots that lasted for three days and destroyed homes, families, and entire cities. The John Hope Franklin Reconciliation Park tells the story of these riots and the utter devastation they caused in hopes that our history never repeats and we learn from what happened before us.


The Greenwood District

The Greenwood Cultural Center also explores the history of the African American District and focuses on the businesses, theaters, restaurants, and other positive impacts that the African Americans have had there in order to celebrate that community and preserve their culture.


Philbrook Museum of Art

This is a former villa that originally belonged to an oil magnate and was converted into one of the most beautiful collections of art in the country. It focuses on art that has Native American descent. The villa is located on a huge greenery and the tours led by guides happen every day and are totally free.


See a UFO sighting that is out of this world!

Okay, so this is not a real UFO, but the Prayer Tower at the Oral Roberts University certainly gives off UFO vibes! It is known around the world for its amazing architecture and stands at 200 feet tall. Legend has it that it is in the very center of the campus to remind people to keep God at the very center of their lives. Visitors are able to climb to the top and look off of the observation deck from Monday to Saturday during normal business hours.
